MHC's Teaching & Learning Area

Teaching & Learning at Medicine Hat College is an area of the college comprised of the Centre for Innovation & Teaching Excellence (CITE) and Library Services. Together we work with instructors and other academic areas to find collaborative solutions to develop meaningful learning experiences for students and support strategic initiatives to meet institutional goals.

Teaching and Learning provides support to faculty through course and program design, building Open Educational Resources, building high-quality online education, designing active learning classrooms, curriculum mapping, teaching and learning enhancement grants, information literacy instruction, and celebrating the amazing work of MHC faculty.

This site focuses on helping faculty strengthen teaching skills for impactful learning experiences and creating opportunities to build connections among our educational leaders. We offer a variety of events and workshops that build expertise, community and leadership.

History of Teaching & Learning at MHC

The area of Teaching and Learning at Medicine Hat College was formed in 2018 when it combined Library Services and Centre for Innovation and Teaching Excellence (CITE) under a unified mandate to promote teaching and learning and create synergies that bridge the relationship between faculty and student support.

Teaching and Learning is a pan-institutional academic area reporting to the Vice President, Academic at MHC.

CITE has taken on many names over the years as the focus and range of services it provided expanded. The first iteration focused on the use of new learning technologies under the name Technology Support Centre. In 2007, the centre was renamed to Educational Technology Services (ETS). As faculty increasingly embraced learning technologies, the inquiry into the study of teaching and learning rose, the area was renamed once again to the Centre for Innovation and Teaching Excellence in 2014.
