This tutorial will show you how to share PowerPoints and other applications (Word, PDF, etc.) in Collaborate using a single monitor, display or screen. This method will work whether you’re teaching remotely or in the classroom with both in-class students and virtual online students.
Many classrooms on campus will have one computer set to duplicate view so that whatever is displayed on the instructor computer station is what will be displayed (aka duplicated) on the projector.
Follow these steps to share only the application window rather than your entire screen with your online students using Collaborate:
1) Login to the computer and turn on the projector.
2) Connect your webcam and/or microphone.
3) Login to Blackboard and go to your Blackboard course.
4) Open the files or applications you wish to show students such as PowerPoint.
5) Resize the application window and the Blackboard browser window, so you can see both windows on your screen.

6) Join the Collaborate Course Room in Blackboard. Ensure your webcam and/or mic is setup.
7) Open the Collaborate Panel by clicking on the purple arrow in the bottom right corner.

8) Click on the Share Content button.

9) From here, click on Share Application/Screen.

10) From the top options, select Window. NOTE: If you have audio or videos in your PowerPoint you wish to share, you will need to select “Entire Window” instead and then click the “Share Audio” box.
11) Select the PowerPoint window (or your desired application), then click on the Share button.

Students online will now only be able to see your PowerPoint, not your entire screen. You are able to use PowerPoint and other applications as you normally would.
Here is what the students online see compared to what your students see in class.

If you hear a notification that an online student has typed something in the chat or raised their hand, you simply just press “esc” on the keyboard to be able to see the desktop screen and Collaborate window again to respond to the student.
